Hello there, 
I am an experienced pet owner having grown up around rescue German Shepherds, my father is a dog trainer in the military police. 
My own German Shepherd passed away recently at the grand age of 15 so my house is now empty and as I am on extended parental leave I am free during the day for pet sitting and dog walks (with the 15month old either in a baby carrier or if possible pram). 
It is essential to me however that your pet is friendly with children. My eldest, 4yrs old, is used to being around dogs but of course he will never be alone with your pet. 
My house is located a short drive away from a forest (we have a dog barrier in our large car), opposite the house we have large fields and our garden itself is over 1000sqm and well enclosed. We do have chickens (in their own large enclosed area) but if this causes an issue we have a front garden too to separate the various animals! 
In our house the dog lodger will be on the same floor as the main bedroom (the children are upstairs) and they are allowed to go into any room they wish to whilst we are here, if we do need to the children's play room and kitchen can be closed off with baby gates (wooden toys have always been victim to our old dog, and for the kitchen bin obviously!) 
Your dog can be taken on many walks including the daily school drop off and pick up, or in the height of summer early in the morning and late in the evening. Our garden is North facing with trees so very shady and we have a dog pool!
